Brazil Entry Requirements 2026 – Complete Guide

Planning a trip to Brazil in 2026? Before you book your flights, make sure you meet all entry requirements. This guide covers visa and eVisa requirements by nationality, passport validity rules, health requirements, customs limits, and what to expect at Brazilian immigration.

Brazil Entry Requirements by Nationality

US, Canadian, and Australian Citizens – eVisa Required

Citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia must obtain a Brazil eVisa before traveling. The requirement has been in place since April 10, 2025. The eVisa is applied for online at brazil.vfsevisa.com, costs $80.90 USD, and takes up to 5 business days to process. See our Brazil eVisa Guide for full details.

EU and UK Citizens – Visa-Free

All EU member state citizens and UK citizens can enter Brazil without any visa for stays up to 90 days. No application or fee is required – just a valid passport. See our Brazil eVisa for EU Citizens and UK Citizens pages.

Other Nationalities

Most Latin American citizens are visa-free for Brazil. Citizens of countries without a visa-free or eVisa arrangement must apply for a traditional consular visa at a Brazilian embassy or consulate. Check our Eligible Countries page.

Passport Validity Requirements

Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Brazil. Most airlines and immigration officers require at least 6 months validity beyond your planned return date. If your passport expires within 6 months of your trip, renew it before applying for any visa or eVisa.

Health and Vaccination Requirements

Yellow Fever Vaccination

Brazil requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate for travelers arriving from yellow fever endemic countries, including parts of Africa and South America (Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela). If you are traveling from these countries or have passed through them within the last 10 days, carry your vaccination certificate (International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis – ICVP).

COVID-19 Requirements

As of 2026, Brazil has lifted all COVID-19 entry requirements. No vaccination certificates, negative tests, or health declarations are required for entry.

What Brazilian Immigration Will Ask

At the border, Brazilian immigration officers may ask:

  • Purpose of your visit (tourism, business, family)
  • Where you are staying (hotel name or address)
  • How long you plan to stay
  • Proof of onward or return travel (flight ticket)
  • Financial proof – sufficient funds or a credit card
  • Yellow fever certificate (if applicable)

Customs and Import Rules

Brazilian customs allow visitors to bring in:

  • Personal belongings and clothing for personal use
  • Up to $500 USD worth of goods purchased abroad (duty-free allowance)
  • Up to 2 liters of alcoholic beverages (for adults)
  • Up to 200 cigarettes

Prohibited items include fresh fruits and vegetables, meat products without documentation, and unauthorized firearms. Large amounts of cash (over $10,000 USD equivalent) must be declared.

Biometric Data Collection

Brazil collects fingerprints and photographs from most foreign nationals at arrival. This is done at the immigration counter and takes only a minute. It is mandatory and required for entry.

Stay Limits

Regardless of your entry type (eVisa or visa-free), the following limits apply:

  • Maximum 90 days per entry
  • Maximum 180 days per year total in Brazil
  • Overstaying results in fines and potential entry bans

For details on extensions, see our Brazil eVisa Validity page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a return ticket to enter Brazil?

Brazilian immigration may request proof of onward or return travel. While not always checked, it is strongly recommended to have a return or onward ticket when entering Brazil. Without one, you may be questioned or denied entry.

How much money do I need to show to enter Brazil?

There is no fixed amount, but a common benchmark is approximately $100 USD per day of your intended stay, or a valid credit card showing sufficient credit. Have bank statements or a card statement ready if asked.

Do children need their own passport to enter Brazil?

Yes. Every traveler, including infants, requires their own valid passport to enter Brazil. Children traveling with only one parent may need a notarized consent letter from the absent parent.

Can I enter Brazil with a dual citizen passport?

Yes. Dual citizens can choose which passport to present at Brazilian immigration. Using a passport from a visa-free country avoids eVisa requirements. Enter and exit Brazil on the same passport.
